I still remember my early days as a coach.
Fresh. Passionate.
Clueless.
I would sit in front of a client and confidently ask,
“So… what do you think?”
Silence.
They would look at me.
I would look at them.
Both of us waiting for something magical to happen.
Nothing did.
As a young pioneer coach then in this region, I thought questions were just… questions.
I didn’t realise they were scalpels.
Keys.
Bridges.
One day, after yet another awkward session, I asked differently.
“What is the one part of this situation that is quietly bothering you?”
He paused.
His eyes softened.
And then — breakthrough.
That was the day I understood.
Questions are not fillers.
They are doorways.
