DRIVING GROWTH FOR MANY, NOT JUST INDIVIDUALS

The Certified Group & Team Coach (GTC) graduate speech was delivered by  Coach Jaclyn Loi Lye Eng at CCA 17th Convocation on 23 November 2024.

It’s 12th Sep, 2024.

I am seated in a conference room with the leadership team & 20 other colleagues.  We gather to witness the graduation ceremony of Aspiro Young Talent Program (or AYTP in short).  In less than an hour of the ceremony, my name has been called out 11 times.  I am being put on the spot!

11 graduating young talents share their learnings from the 18-month journey. Every one of them sited group coaching as the best learning & self-discovery experience from AYTP.  The truth is, they have only attended 2 sessions of group coaching with me, yet it has left such an impression on them.  Yes.  This is indication that coaching works, and group coaching?  Works wonder!

While the AYTP cohort has their take-away from their journey, here’s my top 3 on becoming a coach.

1.  Invest in yourself.  You cannot pour from an empty cup.  Learn up on coaching.  Practise with your peers.  Progress from “doing the coaching” to “being the coach” – listen purely, follow together, explore deeply.

2.  Be of service to others.  Make life better for others, one conversation at a time.  A little goes a long way.

3. Stretch.  Sharpen your axe.  Stay current, be curious & open minded to learn new skills.  Lead by example.

As we move forward, trust the Coach in you to spark growth, for you as well as those lives you’ve touched.

To the first and second cohort of Group & Team Coach (GTC) graduates, today we step out as Certified Group & Team Coaches, ready to accelerate the growth of not one, but many at the same time.  Congratulations and thank you for being the “guinea pigs” of GTC – you are the brave souls.

To the aspiring GTC learners, may you be inspired by our courage to be the firsts – we’ve ironed out the syllabus for you as part of community service.

To Dr Michael, Josephine, Nancy and the CCA team, thank you for the relentless guidance, challenge, and support.  You are World Class!

Last but not least, congratulations to all graduating coaches.  You deserve every recognition for your achievement.

Thank you.
